Alliance of Women Film Journalists announces winners of the 2010 EDA Awards
The Alliance of Women Film Journalists has announced the winners of the 2010 EDA Awards. Lisa Cholodenko's The Kids Are All Right and Debra Granik's Winter’s Bone were both big winners.
The Kids Are All Right had led with the most nominations and picked up seven awards including Best Original Screenplay and Best Woman Screenwriter (Lisa Cholodenko); Best Actress and Women’s Image Award (Annette Bening); Best Ensemble Cast; Best Depiction Of Nudity, Sexuality, or Seduction; and the Cultural Crossover Award.
On the other hand, Debra Granik picked up Best Woman Director and Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in Film, and Winter’s Bone star Jennifer Lawrence picked up the award for Breakthrough Performance.
Black Swan and The Social Network each received four awards. The Social Network was named Best Film and also picked up Best Director (David Fincher), Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) and Best Music/Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). This is somewhat intriguing since some had singled out The Social Network as a sexist film. Black Swan picked up Best Editing (Andrew Weisblum in a tie with Inception's Lee Smith), Best Cinematography (Matthew Libatique), the Unforgettable Moment Award, and the Bravest Performance (Natalie Portman).
They also singled out some films and individuals for a distinct thumbs-down. AWFJ Hall of Shame Award went to The Sex and The City 2, director Michael Patrick King, Sarah Jessica Parker, cast and crew. It was also named the Sequel that Shouldn't Have Been Made. Jennifer Aniston was named Actress Most in Need Of A New Agent. For Colored Girls was named the Movie You Wanted To Love But Just Couldn't.
The 45-year age difference between Michael Douglas and Imogen Poots in Solitary Man earned it the award for Most Egregious Age Difference Between The Leading Man and The Love Interest. Mel Gibson picked up the Sexist Pig Award, though that was most likely more for his private life than anything he did in his film work.
Toy Story 3 was named Best Animated Film.
