General Submissions
Planet in Focus is now accepting submissions for the 12th Annual Planet in Focus Film Festival taking place Oct. 12-16, 2011 in Toronto. Films must be produced as of January 1, 2009. Films and vides can include stories and explorations of urban and rural spaces; wildlife; social, cultural and political environments; farming; Aboriginal perspectives; health and environment; climate change; human displacement; war; globalization; water; farming; forests and food security and other interpretations of the theme “environment”. In addition to our regular public screenings, the festival features an Industry Day with panels, workshops and pitch sessions devoted to the subject of film production, distribution and funding, a school program for elementary and secondary school students focused on environmental education and an entertaining and inspiring children and youth program.
2011 Spotlight: Landscapes
The 2011 Planet in Focus Film Festival spotlight is on ‘landscapes’. Created over time, landscapes are more than simply the physical environment; they directly impact human existence and cultural development. People and place combine to form local and national identities, and help define the identity of a particular region and their cultural and artistic expression.
Landscapes inspire artists to explore, challenge and create dialogue around the complexities of this interaction. The Planet in Focus Spotlight on landscapes will look at contemporary film and video makers who are challenging and exploring our changing perceptions of landscape and how the human-made and natural landscape shapes our identity and future.
2011 Planet in Focus Film Festival Awards
A jury will select the awards for Best Canadian Short Film, Best Canadian Feature Film, Best International Short Film, Best International Feature Film, and the Mark Haslam Award. We will be announcing a new Award in February. Be sure to sign up for the Planet in Focus newsletter at www.planetinfocus.org for updated information about the award.
Green Pitch Competition
The Green Pitch is a funding program offered to Canadian filmmakers by Planet in Focus and other key supporters. Visit our website at www.planetinfocus.org and sign up for our newsletter to find out how you can be eligible to pitch and win development funding and services for your next environmental film program.
Is Your Film Green?
Film productions are contributors to climate change through the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs), such as carbon dioxide and environmental waste. Planet in Focus is collecting information on how productions are working to reduce their environmental impact. Please let us know what efforts were made to reduce your carbon footprint throughout the production of your film. This question does not affect whether or not we screen your film. Please feel free to add more information in a separate document. We may contact you for more details.
