Les Lauréats des 6e Prix Henri-Langlois (French film awards)
The city of Vincennes, France, presented their annual Prix Henri-Langlois (Henri Langlois awards) at their City Hall to distinguished cinéastes and film professionals. Writer/director Roman Polanski was awarded the Prix Henri-Langlois d'Honneur 2011 (Prize of Honor) in recognition of his 50-year career. He himself had presented the Prix Henri-Langlois - Révélations (Discovery Prize) to debut-filmmaker Christopher Thompson for his film Bus Palladium.
In addition to hosting the ceremony, Gisèle Casadesus picked up an award for her career achievement. Michael Lonsdale was also recognized for his career as well as his role in Des hommes et des Dieux (Of Gods and Men).
Other directors who received prizes included Bertrand Blier, Benoît Jacquot, Tony Gatlif, and Chad's Mahamat-Saleh Haroun for his career and for Un homme qui crie (A Screaming Man). Composer Francis Lai (Love Story, Stranger Than Fiction) was honoured for his work scoring films.
The Henri Langlois awards are given annually to actors, directors, technicians or those in the film industry, who have had or will have an influence on the art of cinema, but also to international institutions that work to preserve film heritage. The awards are named in honour of Henri Langlois, co-founder of the Cinémathèque Française and also the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF). In addition to being an influence on the French Nouvelle Vague ("New Wave") filmmakers, he received an honourary Academy Award in 1974.
