Fly-By-Night: Brief Moments And Fleeting Experiences In Ephemeral Environments.
The Gladstone Hotel is seeking individual or groups of artists who would like to participate in an exhibition curated by the hotel for the city’s Nuit Blanche celebrations October 1st at sunset to October 2nd at sunrise, 2011. This exhibition will showcase temporary installations in the hotel’s 10 second floor studio spaces, hallway and Art Bar. Artists are asked to present concepts for ephemeral environments for visitors to experience. Works may be visual, experiential, or participatory, but must create a unique environment within the space assigned.
The Gladstone has become one of West Queen West’s most welcoming and engaging hubs for contemporary art. In 2010 Now Magazine stated:
In particular, the Gladstone Hotel once again made great use of the whole building to showcase a wide variety of good contemporary art. It felt like one big art party… There was a real sense of exploring the space, and the curating struck a good balance between serious contemplative pieces and more accessible playful work.
