NAACP's 42nd Image Awards - winners


The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) held their ceremony tonight for the 42nd Image Awards Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.

Tyler Perry was the night's biggest winner. His film For Colored Girls won Best Motion Picture, Best Supporting Actress (Kimberly Elise), and Best Director. His television show "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" won Best Comedy Show, while David Mann won Best Actor in a Comedy Series for "Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns." Tyler Perry came into the evening with an impressive nineteen nominations for his film and television shows.

Denzel Washington won the award for Actor in a Motion Picture for The Book of Eli. Actress in a Motion Picture went to Halle Berry for her role in Frankie & Alice. Samuel L. Jackson was recognized for his Supporting Acting work in Mother and Child.

Frankie & Alice was also winner of the award for Independent Motion Picture. The Foreign Motion Picture award went to Biutiful. The Documentary award was given to the two-part PBS series For Love of Liberty: The Story of America's Black Patriots.
