Quebec
premiere of El Bulli – Cooking in Progress
With sommelier and writer François Chartier
Montreal,
July 18, 2011 – The Montreal International Documentary
Festival (RIDM), in collaboration with the Society for Arts and
Technology (SAT) and Quartier des spectacles, invites you to the Quebec
premiere of El Bulli – Cooking in Progress on August 5, 2011 at 9 p.m. in place de la Paix, on Saint-Laurent Blvd.
between Sainte-Catherine and René-Lévesque.
Through the eyes of German director Gereon
Wetzel, the film takes us into the world of Ferran Adrià, one of the world’s
most famous chefs. The film will be introduced by François Chartier, author of Taste Buds and Molecules and a flavour harmonies consultant for elBulli. A Q&A session will follow the screening.
Each
year, Adrià’s restaurant in Catalonia, elBulli, closes for six months. During
the closing, the chef and his team embark on a scientific and culinary journey,
studying hundreds of foods and assessing their quality, flavour, texture,
cooking techniques and combinations. The result is exceptional culinary
experiences that profoundly touch diners on emotional, visual and textural
levels. Only a small handful of their experiments find their way onto elBulli’s
menu the next season. The film is an irresistible excursion into the
magnificent obsession of an acclaimed chef whose innovations have helped
elBulli earn the distinction of world’s best restaurant five times. The film will be screened in the original Catalan and Spanish version
with English subtitles and will be playing at Cinema du Parc starting August 6,
2011.
The RIDM is Quebec’s only film festival devoted to
documentaries. It showcases the best of reality-based cinema by presenting new
works by established filmmakers and up-and-coming talents. Its next edition
will be held from November 9 to 20, 2011.
