Free screening: The Last Explorer
indigiFLIX presents 'The Last Explorer' this Wednesday
Come to indigiFLIX’s FREE Screening of The Last Explorer at the TIFF Bell Lightbox and Win Tickets to Buffy Sainte-Marie
The imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival invites you to have a sneak peak of our new festival venue, the TIFF Bell Lightbox (350 King St. W), and watch a FREE presentation of Neil Diamond’s The Last Explorer. As this year’s final installment of imagineNATIVE’s popular indigiFLIX screening series, The Last Explorer will screen August 17 at 7PM; Neil Diamond (who also directed Reel Injun) will join us via Skype for a Q&A following the screening of his film – this event is FREE.
That’s not all. We’ll be giving away FREE tickets to see Buffy Sainte-Marie in concert at imagineNATIVE in October! This special screening celebrates imagineNATIVE’s move to its new festival venue and the successful run of its first indigiFLIX screening series. Come by the TIFF Bell Lightbox on August 17 to meet the 2011 imagineNATIVE team and win other prizes including a pass to the 2011 festival or a DVD box set. Prize draws, including the Buffy tickets, will be made at the screening.
“imagineNATIVE is very excited about its move to the TIFF Bell Lightbox this year,” says Sage Paul, Events and Communications Director. “This new venue provides the latest and best screening experience for Indigenous artists and all audiences alike. We hope to see all of the community out at this event, showing their pride and support for Indigenous-made cinematic work, and to have a chance to win tickets to see an Indigenous legend in person.”
The Last Explorer tells the remarkable story of George Elson (played by Nathaniel Arcand), a Cree explorer and one of Canada’s unsung heroes. Director Neil Diamond narrates this personal and compelling view of Elson, his great uncle, who led an expedition to map Labrador, then the last uncharted region of North America. The Last Explorer weaves together adventure, betrayal, death and heartbreak, all set against the stunning scenery of Labrador.

About indigiFLIX
The indigiFLIX screening series, presented by imagineNATIVE, is hosted in Indigenous cultural and community centres to reach a broader First Nations, Métis, Inuit and non-Native audience beyond the annual festival. Through this initiative, imagineNATIVE brings exciting Canadian Indigenous-made programming right into the heart of the Indigenous community of Toronto at no cost. Films are selected from past imagineNATIVE festivals in an effort to keep these important films alive and accessible to the Indigenous community. imagineNATIVE is committed to supporting artists through payment of industry-standard artist fees for all works presented.
