On Tuesday, November 15, join host Richard Crouse in conversation with director/producer David Frankel as they discuss his approach to directing and producing successful feature comedies. This is a candid and in depth look at David's filmmaking process on a number of different movies, what attracts him to a project, his casting process and how he works with top tier actors. They will also discuss the challenges of physical comedy, tackling adaptations of popular novels, managing audience expectations and ultimately what David thinks makes a comedy successful.
On Wednesday, November 16, join host Richard Crouse in conversation with Writer/Actor/Producer Mike White as they discuss his process for crafting great and original feature comedies. This is an entertaining and insightful look at Mike's body of work, his creative process and his relationships with key collaborators. He will talk about the challenges of approaching a film as both a writer and actor, working in different mediums and styles of comedy, as well as his personal relationship to comedy and key touchstones. Mike will share his thoughts on working within the independent and studio systems and where he thinks the future of comedy is heading.
Both events will take place at 7:00 PM at TIFF Bell Lightbox, Cinema 1 (350 King Street West, Toronto). Doors open at 6:30.
These free public Masterclasses will launch a new session of the Telefilm Canada Features Comedy Lab, a CFC Film program presented in collaboration with Just For Laughs, which seeks to advance the comedy genre in Canada and generate feature film comedies that achieve commercial and critical success.
