The Acadèmia del Cinema Català (Catalan Film Academy) announced the nominations for their 4th Annual Premis Gaudí (Gaudi Film Awards). Nominations were selected from a field of 41 feature films (including films in Catalan, non-Catalan and European), 13 films for television, 32 documentaries, 6 animated features and 46 short films.
Kike Maillo's science fiction drama Eva led the pack with 16 nominations. Its mentions included Best Catalan Film, Director, Screenplay, Actress (Claudia Vega) and Actor (Daniel Brühl).
Not far behind, Jaume Balagueró's
Carles Torras' Open 24h and Ramon Térmens' Catalunya über alles rounded out the field for Best Catalan Film. The other nominees for Best Non-Catalan Film were Christian Molina's De gran vull ser soldat (I Want to be a Soldier), Icíar Bollaín's Katmandu, un espejo en el cielo (Kathmandu, a mirror in the sky) and Isaki Lacuesta's Los pasos dobles (Double Steps).
Jordi Dauder received a posthumous Best Supporting Actor nomination
The nominees for Best Animated Feature category are Ignacio Ferreras' Arrugas (Wrinkles), Fernando Trueba, Javier Mariscal and Tono Errando's Chico & Rita, Andrés G. Schaer's Floquet de Neu (Snowflake, the White Gorilla), and Antoni d'Ocon's Rovelló a la llegenda de Sant Jordi (Scruff and the Legend of Saint George). Both Arrugas and Chico & Rita are on the Oscar longlist for Best Animated Feature.
The nominees for Best European Film are Tom Hooper's Oscar-winning The King's Speech (El discurs del rei), Melancholia by Lars von Trier, Enrique Urbizu's No habrá paz para los malvados (No Peace for the Wicked), and Wim Wenders' Pina.
The ceremony for the 4th Annual Premis Gaudí will take place on February 6 at the Teatre Artèria Paral·lel in Barcelona.
