Under 20 for Under 20’s Playwriting Competition
Application Deadline: February 17, 2012
This year marks the 15th anniversary for this competition that began in 1998. The deadline for this year’s annual Under 20 for Under 20’s Playwriting Competition is February 17, 2012.
We accept submissions from writers across the country who are under the age of twenty. Plays must be no longer than twenty minutes in length; they can not have had a professional production, and should require no more than four or five actors to perform. The winner is awarded a prize of $250, and their play receives a professional workshop reading.
Interested writers should submit one copy of the script, c/o Under 20 for Under 20&rsqo;s National Playwriting Competition, on single-sided 8.5″ × 11″ paper that is typed or word-processed (no faxes please). We will also require proof of age (e.g. a photocopy of your birth certificate, health card or driver’s license). The plays are read blindly by a national jury (this means that each writer’s identification is separated from their script so as not to influence the adjudicators).
It's a huge thrill and honour to have won the under-20 writing contest. I am really pleased to have had the opportunity to enter the contest because it was the first time I was able to showcase something I wrote. This experience will certainly help to improve my writing skills, particularly working with the Tarragon and having the professional reading done.
