2012 Irish Film and Television Academy Awards - nominees
The Irish Film and Television Academy have announced the nominees for their 9th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs).
Several films tied for the lead with nine nominations each. The gender-bending period drama Albert Nobbs by Rodrigo García, the black comedy The Guard by John Michael McDonagh and the rural drama Stella Days by Thaddeus O’Sullivan each including Best Film and Best Film Script. They were joined in both categories by the psychological thriller Charlie Casanova by Terry McMahon.
For the Best Director category, Rodrigo García missed the cut. Instead, Rebecca Daly took his place for her work on The Other Side of Sleep.
The Best Actor field pits Michael Fassbender (Shame) against Brendan Gleeson (The Guard), Ciarán Hinds (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Martin Sheen (Stella Days). Both picked Brendan Gleeson and Ciarán Hinds picked up an additional nomination for Supporting Actor for Albert Nobbs and The Debt respectively.
The Best Actress category includes a young Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) as well as Aoife Duffin (Behold The Lamb), Antonia Campbell Hughes (The Other Side of Sleep) and Marcella Plunkett (Stella Days).
The movies competing for Best International Film are Bridesmaids, Drive, Senna and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Leading the television nominees is the crime drama Love/Hate. It picked up 10 nominations including Best Drama.
The 9th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards will take place on Saturday, 11th February at the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD).
