2012 Irish Film and Television Academy Awards - winners
The Irish Film and Television Academy held their gala ceremony for the 9th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs) tonight at the Convention Centre Dublin.
John Michael McDonagh's The Guard was the main winner of the night, winning the top prize of Best Film. It also won for Best Director, Script and Supporting Actress (Fionnula Flanagan). Flanagan was also honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Irish/British co-production Albert Nobbs also won four awards. It captured Best International Actress (Glenn Close), Makeup and Hair, Original Score and Sound.
Michael Fassbender was named Best Actor for his bold performance in Steve McQueen's Shame. Young Actress Saoirse Ronan won Best Actress for the action movie Hanna. The Supporting Actor winner wasChris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids), while the International Actor winner was Canada's Ryan Gosling (Drive).
Winner for Best International Film was Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. The Documentary prize was claimed by Bernadette; Notes on a Political Journey.
On the television side, the crime-drama Love/Hate captured seven awards for Best Drama, Best Director (David Caffrey), Writer TV (Stuart Carolan), Actor Lead TV Drama (Aidan Gillen), Actress Support TV Drama (Denise McCormack), Actor Support TV Drama (Tom Vaughan Lawlor), and Editing (Isobel Stephenson).
