2012 Berlinale Awards - winners
As the 62nd Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin (Berlin International Film Festival) or Berlinale draws to a close, the awards were handed out a closing gala ceremony. Among the attendees were Jury President Mike Leigh and members of the International Jury Anton Corbijn, Asghar Farhadi, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jake Gyllenhaal, François Ozon, Boualem Sansal and Barbara Sukow.
The winner of the Golden Bear for the best film was Paolo and Vittorio Taviani's Cesare deve morire (Caesar Must Die). It also won the competition category for the Ecumenical Prize.
The Jury Grand Prix-Silver Bear went to Bence Fliegauf's Csak a szél (Just The Wind). It earned a pair of others, taking the Peace Film Award and the Amnesty International Film Prize.
En Kongelig Affære (A Royal Affair) picked up a couple of Silver Bears for Best Actor (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard) and Best Script by Nikolaj Arcel and Rasmus Heisterberg. Other Silver Bears went to Best Director Christian Petzold for Barbara (Barbara); to cinematographer Lutz Reitemeier for the photography in Bai lu yuan (White Deer Plain); Best Actress to Rachel Mwanza in Rebelle (War Witch) by Quebec filmmaker Kim Nguyen; and a Special Award to L'enfant d'en haut (Sister) by Ursula Meier. Rebelle (War Witch) also picked up a Special Mention from the Ecumenical Jury.
Alberta filmmaker Trevor Anderson won the DAAD (Deutsche Akademische Austausch Dienst, or German Academic Exchange Service) Short Film Prize for his short musical The Man that Got Away. The DAAD Short Film Prize includes a grant for a three-month stay in Berlin.
