Call for submissions: Toronto International Film Festival
A call for submissions has been put out for the 37th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival.
The accept feature length films (50 minutes or longer) from all over the world in every genre. For short films, however, they only accept Canadian submissions with rare exceptions such as a short films spotlight country or filmmaker. Last year, they screened 336 films from 65 countries. Every invited film receives at least two public screenings and one press/industry screening.
TIFF, as it is known, is the largest public film festival in the world and is in the top tier of festivals with Cannes, Venice and Berlin. Roger Ebert has written that it is one of the top two with Cannes and many would put TIFF at number one. Of course, that is subjective and will vary from year to year, but there is no doubting the importance of TIFF.
The deadline for submissions is April 27, 2012. Fees are $25 to $80 depending on the category. Late submissions will be accepted at a higher fee ($50 to $150) until May 25 for Canadian submissions and June 1 for International submissions.
The 37th Annual Toronto International Film Festival takes place from September 6th to 16th, 2012.
