2012 Drama League Awards – winners
Earlier today, the 78th Annual Drama League Awards luncheon took place with hosts Stockard Channing and John Larroquette at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. The Drama League Awards are given to honour outstanding productions and performances on Broadway and Off-Broadway. Winners and nominees are chosen by audience members who have chosen to join the Drama League.
Other Desert Cities came away with the Distinguished Production of a Play Award. Distinguished Revival of a Play went to Death of a Salesman, while Distinguished Production of a Musical was awarded to Once, an adaptation of the film. Distinguished Revival of a Musical was presented to Follies.
The ultra-competitive Distinguished Performance Award was captured by Audra McDonald for her role in the Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess. She had been competing against 55 other candidates including Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Angela Lansbury, John Larroquette, Kevin Spacey and Alan Rickman.
The Drama League Awards are considered the oldest theatrical honour in the United States.
