2012 Toronto International Music Summit, May 26


The first ever Toronto International Music Summit takes place today in the city's downtown. The Toronto Music Summit is a conference for the independent and unsigned emerging artist representing all genres of music.

The headlining guest speakers are Kardinal Offichall and music video producer Director X. Conference speakers include Dale Kotyk (Vice President Marketing, Warner Music Group), Vered Koren (Director Music & Brand Partnerships, EMI Music Canada), Rodney Murphy (SOCAN Education & Outreach), and Jeff Leake (Program Director, Sirius Satellite Radio).

The main conference takes place at the Fairmont Royal York, while the performances take place at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Toronto International Music Summit, May 26, 2012

On May 26, 2012 Toronto will be the site of an incredible exchange of ideas between artists, music industry professionals, thinkers and developing artists at the Toronto International Music Summit. This one-day event, to be held at the Fairmont Royal York, will provide the tools and knowledge necessary to gain a foothold in the music industry and promote your band, your brand and yourself to the best of your ability.

The Summit will host a huge variety of influential industry professionals from all over the music business. Speakers will focus on four specific aspects of the music industry: Music Training, Marketing & Branding, Understanding the Music Business and Mentorship for Emerging Artists. Guest speakers who will be present at the summit include:

Dale Kotyk, Vice President Marketing - Warner Music

With nearly a quarter century in the music business, Warner Music Canada VP Marketing, Dale Kotyk, has practical experience in virtually every area of the business. Over that time, Kotyk has held posts in radio promotion, sales and marketing - where for the better part of the past decade, he has guided Warner’s marketing team through the digital revolution, and has spearheaded many of the company’s new business initiatives. Kotyk can lay claim to helping shape the careers of a diverse list of prolific Canadian artists including Blue Rodeo, Billy Talent, Michael BublĂ© and 2011 Juno Awards Best New Artist, Meaghan Smith.

Vered Koren, Director Music & Brand Partnerships- EMI Music Canada

Vered Koren is the founder and head of EMI Music Canada’s Brand Partnerships department. Her role is to build, lead and execute strategic multi-platform partnerships between EMI artists and consumer brands across Canada and the globe. Vered has developed sponsorships, endorsements, digital music programs and unique experiences for brands such as Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Joe Fresh, RBC, Quaker, Maple Leaf Foods and Victoria’s Secret. These brand campaigns have featured a range of EMI artists including Katy Perry, Johnny Reid, Norah Jones, Jarvis Church, Barenaked Ladies, and Kylie Minogue.

Director X (formerly known as Little X) Celebrity Music Video Producer

Director X was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and is of Trinidadian and Swiss decent. Moving to New York City he became the protege of pioneering hip hop director Hype Williams, X has been noted for directing high-budget, visually distinctive videos for celebrity artists including Nelly Furtado, David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, Kardinal Off-ishal, Sean Paul, R. Kelly, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, Busta Rythms, Rihanna, LL Cool J, Brandy, Diddy and more… His work has been nominated by the MTV music video awards and Music Music Video Awards.

In addition to being present at one of the music industry’s most enlightening get-togethers, attendees will also have a chance to take a look at some of Canada’s up-and-coming independent artists at the Hard Rock Cafe on Saturday, May 26th following the day time conference. A portion of the proceeds from the conference will be donated to MusicCounts, which has been devoted to providing music education in schools around the country since 1989.
