2012 Nollywood Movies Awards (NMAs) – winners

The inaugural Nollywood Movies Awards (NMAs) 2012 took place tonight at the Civic Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. The ceremony was hosted by comedian Julius D'Genius Agwu and actress Kate Henshaw.

Mahmood Ali-Balogun's romantic drama Tango With Me led the field with six wins including the top prize for Best Movie. It also won for Best Actor (Joseph Benjamin), Directing, Cinematography and Sound Editing, while lead actress Genevieve Nnaji was given the Viewer's Choice Award – Female. Tango With Me had led with ten nominations.

Next with three awards was Obi Emelonye's Mirror Boy. It won for Editing, Costume Design and Make-Up.

Daniel Ademinokan's Ghetto Dreamz took a couple of prizes for Best Movie Soundtrack and both Supporting Actor for Gabriel Afolayan. Aye Dudu was a double winner for Best Indigenous Language Movie and Actor in an Indigenous Movie (Yinka Quadri).

Mercy Johnson won Best Actress for Weeping Soul, while the Best Supporting Actress prize went to Nse Ikpe-Etim for Kiss & Tell. Sylvia Oluchi was named Rising Star for her role in Bent Arrows.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented by Charles Okafor to Chief Kenneth Nnebue, who is known as the father of modern Nollywood. He produced and co-wrote Living in Bondage, the first Nollywood hit movie.
