The Toronto branch of the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC) has put out a call for submissions to their new Doc Toronto Community Connections series. They are seeking documentaries between 45 and 60 minutes long (a broadcast hour) about a relevant community social issue, local or global.
DTCC free documentary ia a screening and public discussion series that utilizes documentary film as a tool for community engagement and activism.
Filmmakers must be from the GTA or members of DOC Toronto. All screenings will be followed by a moderated audience discussion forum with the filmmaker, participants from the film, and other experts.
The first free screening in this series will be Min Sook Lee's El Contrato about Mexican migrant workers picking tomatoes in southern Ontario. The screening takes place on Tuesday, August 28, 7pm at the Evergreen Brick Works, BMO Atrium. Director Min Sook Lee and subjects from the film will be in attendance.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 24 at 5pm.

DOC TORONTO COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS is a free documentary screening and public discussion series focused on community engagement and activism. Spearheaded by DOC Toronto and generously supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Community Connections links Torontonians to important social issues of our time using documentary films made by local filmmakers. The screenings will simultaneously support the outreach and awareness- raising efforts of GTA community groups and the audience development efforts of filmmakers. All screenings will be followed by a moderated audience discussion forum with the filmmaker, participants from the film, and other experts.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
We are looking for:
--engaging documentaries about a relevant community social issue, local or global (no promotional pieces or PSAs)
--length: between 45 and 60 minutes long (a broadcast hour)
-- filmmakers must be from the GTA or members of DOC Toronto (a $10 application fee applies for non-members)
--film cannot conflict with any broadcast or theatrical license or distribution deal
--if selected, a $200 screening fee will be paid to filmmakers who are DOC Toronto members, non-members will be offered a complimentary membership in lieu of screening fee.
--the selected director will help shape the post-screening audience discussion and must be in attendance at the event. He/She will work with DTCC to invite pertinent experts, community groups and individuals concerned by the issue explored in the film.

Please note that non DOC Toronto members are required to pay a $10 application fee (details for payment are included in the form). Please also note in our application form that we ask for a password protected vimeo-link to your film, NOT a screener DVD.
