TIFF announces the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto Asian Film Summit

Toronto International Film Festival Announces
SHANGRI-LA HOTEL TORONTO ASIAN FILM SUMMIT

Tokyo – Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival, today announced the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto Asian Film Summit will take place during the 2012 Festival, on Monday, September 10 at the Shangri-La Hotel.

“As both a key launch pad for films in North America and home to huge audiences for Asian cinema, we think Toronto can be a prime meeting place for the Asian and western film industries,” said Bailey. “The Shangri-La Hotel Toronto Asian Film Summit is our humble attempt to offer a platform where industry leaders can foster deeper relationships, generate new ideas and find new business opportunities.”

Bringing together leaders in film production, finance, distribution, exhibition and policy, the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto Asian Film Summit aims to strengthen bridges between the film industries of Asia and the West. International star, producer and director Jackie Chan will attend the Summit as guest of honour. Senator Chris Dodd, chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) was one of the first to confirm his participation.

“With the opening of the Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto now has a highly respected Asian hospitality brand just minutes from the Festival’s own home, TIFF Bell Lightbox,” added Bailey. “It just made sense to celebrate the surging strength of Asia’s film industries now. We’re thrilled that people of the calibre of Jackie Chan and Senator Chris Dodd will be a part of it.”

The full Shangri-La Asian Film Summit line-up will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Festival’s Sales and Industry Office will be selling a limited number of passes to industry professionals who are registered with the Festival. Passes will go on sale July 20.

The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 6 to 16, 2012.
