2012 Derana Lux Film Awards for Sri Lankan cinema – winners

The inaugural edition of the Derana Lux Film Awards for Sri Lankan film took place on Friday at Musaeus College Auditorium.

Sweeping the awards was Gamani by Rear Admiral Dr Sarath Weerasekara. The film tells the story of the Gongala Massacre in 1999 in Ampara District, Sri Lanka. It took a whopping seventeen awards, eighteen if you include both winners in the tie for Best Supporting Actor. Its wins included the main categories of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress (Dilhani Ashokamala Ekanayake).

Best Actor, however, went to Pibidhu Chathuranga for his role in Challenges.

Ranjan Ramanayake and Anarkalli Akarsha picked up the awards for Most Popular Actor and Most Popular Actress respectively.
