2012 Artios Awards – winners

The Casting Society of America held its 28th Annual Artios Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Casting last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The event was hosted by Nicole Sullivan. However, the joint ceremony at the XL Nightclub, Cabaret and Lounge in New York was canceled because of Hurricane Sandy. The award's name derives from an ancient Greek term meaning "perfectly fitted."

The winners for Big Budget Feature – Drama were Kerry Barden, Paul Schnee for The Help. They beat the casting directors for The Descendants, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Hunger Games and Moneyball.

Mindy Marin and Kara Lipson won Big Budget Feature – Comedy for Crazy, Stupid, Love. For Studio or Independent films, the Drama winners were Deborah Aquila, Tricia Wood and Nina Gold for My Week With Marilyn, while the Comedy prize went to Heidi Levitt and Michael Sanford for the Oscar-winner The Artist.

In television, the Lena Dunham series Girls won for both Television Pilot Comedy and Television Series Comedy. Homeland also won twice, taking Television Pilot Drama and tying for Television Series Drama with The Good Wife.

Ten-time nominee Bernard Telsey was unfortunately shut out of the prizes in all ten of his categories.

Special awards were presented to casting director Lora Kennedy (Hoyt Bowers Award given for excellence in casting); Harvey Fierstein (The New York Apple Award given to individual for contributions to the New York casting community); and Ben Affleck (Career Achievement Award).
