Brazil Film Fest 2012, Oct 18-21
BRAZIL FILM FEST BRINGS RIO TO TORONTO
Katia Adler, Executive Director of the Brazil Film Fest, announced that famed film director Cecília Amado will be in attendance at the festival for the Canadian Premiere of her film CAPTAINS OF THE SAND, winner of top prize at this year’s Los Angeles Brazilian Film Fest.
“We are thrilled and honoured to have Cecília in attendance at this year’s festival, especially given that this year marks the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of her esteemed grandfather, novelist Jorge Amado,” said Adler.
This year, Brazil Film Fest is celebrating RioFilme’s 20th anniversary, with a selection of ten successful features produced and/or distributed by RioFilme. RioFilme invests in projects by companies based in the City of Rio – including movies, TV series, festivals, awards, and movie theatres.
In addition to CAPTAINS OF THE SAND, highlights of the Brazil Film Fest include FATHER’S CHAIR, premiering in Brazil March 2013, which was in official competition for the World Dramatic Exhibition at this year’s Sundance, the Canadian premieres of ARTIFICIAL PARADISES which is being co-presented by the Inside Out Film Festival, and PEACE IN RIO, which will be co-presented by Hot Docs.
Direct from Brazil, singer and songwriter Pedro Luís will perform songs from his debut solo album “Tempo de Menino” at a very special Closing Act at Revival Bar (783 College Street). One of the hottest performers in South America, Luís and his band will close out the festival with his infectious brand of Brazilian pop music. Tickets to this highly anticipated show are available at www.ticketweb.ca.
Additional guests of the Brazil Film Fest include Sergio Sá Leitao (CEO of RioFilme) and Ricardo Cota (Communications Subsecretary of Rio de Janeiro State).
Brazil Film Fest is proud to be in partnership with Uma Nota, a Toronto event series focusing on Brazilian, Latin, Caribbean, Funk, and Soul music, running concurrently from October 19th to 21st.
Additional partners of the festival include Now Magazine, Hot Docs, aluCine, Portuguese International Film Festival, Brazuca, Café com Letras, Inside Out, Toronto Reel Asian International Film festival and Lula Music and Arts Centre and Toronto International Film and Video Awards Inc.
All screenings at the Brazil Film Fest will be held at The Royal Cinema at 608 College Street. All films will be English subtitled.
A film festival fully dedicated to Brazilian cinema, Brazil Film Fest showcases a selection of compelling movies from the new wave of Brazilian filmmaking, all taking place over four days in Toronto. Including both feature films and documentaries, the Brazil Film Fest is a chance to experience some truly creative and audacious films – both in form and in content. A uniquely Brazilian way to warm up at the arrival of the Canadian winter!
