2012 International Diaspora Film Festival, Nov 1-6

Tonight, the 12th International Diaspora Film Festival opens in downtown Toronto with a screening and live concert.

The opening screening will be the Irish/Algerian co-production El Gusto by Safinez Bousbia. The award-winning documentary is a look at the Algerian music genre known as Chaabi. After the film, Ventanas Sephardic Music & Flamenco will perform a concert co-sponsored by the Ashkenaz Festival (separate admission).

The festival will present a number of free events including short film and student film screenings, and talks including post-screening discussion with Canadian film stalwarts Atom Egoyan and Arsinée Khanjain after presenting their film Calendar, and a talk with Sergei Kapterev after Khaz-push by Amo Bek-Nazarian.

The 12th International Diaspora Film Festival continues until November 6 at Innis Town Hall, 2 Sussex Avenue and Carlton Cinemas, 20 Carlton Street.
