MTV European Music Awards 2012 – winners
The 19th MTV European Music Awards took place tonight in Frankfurt, Germany. The event was hosted by German supermodel Heidi Klum.
It was a huge night for EMA newcomer Taylor Swift. In her debut appearance at the international music extravaganza, she not only closed the show with ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ but took home three awards, tying longtime EMA fave Justin Bieber with three: Best Live, Best Look, and Best Female.
Canadian heartthrob Justin Bieber won for Best Pop and Best Male as well as scoring Best World Stage. He couldn’t be at Frankfurt’s Festhalle in person, but appeared via video link to express his gratitude and excitement.
Like Taylor, Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen was a first-time EMA attendee, nominee, and performer. She ended up bagging two awards: Best Song (‘Call Me Maybe’, of course) and Best PUSH. Breakout U.K. boy band band One Direction went two for two in their award categories, winning Best New and the second ever Biggest Fans award.
The second ever Worldwide Act, like the first one, went to the nominee from Asia; this time, China’s Han Geng! And another superstar from Asia, K-pop sensation Psy, both performed and won Best Video for ‘Gangnam Style’
