Myannmar Motion Picture Academy Awards – winners

The Myanmar (or Burma) government presented 11 prizes of the Myannmar Motion Picture Academy Awards for films of 2011 at Thuwunna National Indoor Stadium in Yangon on Sunday evening. The ceremony returned to Yangon after six years in the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw.

Htar Waya A Linn Tan Myar by Tun Aung Zaw swept the field with eight of the eleven awards. Its wins included Best Picture, Director, Actor (Naung Naung), Actress (Melody), Supporting Actor (Mos) and Screenplay.

The only other winners were Yinn Kwae Nar for Supporting Actress (Chit Snow Oo), and Pan Kyar Wutt Hmone for Cinematography and Sound.

A total of 15 films screened in local Burmese cinemas in 2011 were on the shortlist for the awards. Most of them were comedies.

The Myannmar Motion Picture Academy Awards have taken place annually since 1952.
