Leading the field with eleven nominations was Daniel Roby's historical drama Louis Cyr : l'homme le plus fort du monde (Louis Cyr: The Strongest Man in the World). Its nominations included Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress (Rose-Maïté Erkoreka) and Best Actor (Antoine Bertrand).
Next with nine mentions was Louise Archambault's Gabrielle, which was Canada's submission for the Foreign Language category of the Academy Awards. Its nominations included Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay. But surprisingly its lead actress Gabrielle Marion-Rivard was omitted from the nominees' list.
Other films that were well-represented included Le démantèlement (The Dismantling) by Sébastien Pilote, which received six nominations; and Catimini, Chasse au Godard d'Abbittibbi (Hunting the Northern Godard) and Diego Star with five nominations each.
Micheline Lanctôt was announced as the recipient of the honourary Jutra-Hommage 2014.
In all, there were 39 feature films, 29 feature-length documentaries and 36 short or medium animated films that were evaluated by different juries. As for short or medium-length fiction films, 40 of the 173 eligible were screened and considered for appointments
The ceremony for the 16e soirée des Jutra will take place on Sunday, March 23 at 7:30pm at the Monument-National in Montreal.
