The 15th Annual imagineNATIVE returns October 22-26, 2014 with the most compelling and distinctive Indigenous works from around the globe featuring: 130 films and videos; nine Radio Works; seven multi-platform New Media works; four art exhibitions featuring 19 media artists; 11 industry panels and public workshops; and 17 commissions. imagineNATIVE will feature 175 artists representing over 70 distinct Indigenous nations from 12 countries.

imagineNATIVE is proud to announce the premiere of Storyteller Screenings, a cinema-meets-storytelling experience, on Saturday, October 25 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. Storyteller Screenings combines a new screen-based video work and a live reading. This year Joseph Boyden, one of Canada’s true literary stars, will present a new work with master of animation Terril Calder. Following next, legendary author, artist and activist Maria Campbell will share a new short story created in collaboration with Shane Belcourt, a leading filmmaker in Canadian Indigenous cinema. Together these artists–each from a Métis or mixed culture–combine craft, transcend media and explore new territory to tell a story unlike any other.
As imagineNATIVE celebrates 15 years, they will also honour the 10th anniversary of Wapikoni with a special program curated by Caroline Monnet, presented entirely in French on Thursday, October 23. Wapikoni is the world’s largest producer of short films made by francophone Indigenous artists, many of whom are youth. imagineNATIVE has a long history with Wapikoni who has contributed a vital and significant body of work to international Indigenous cinema.
In celebration of today's announcement, imagineNATIVE will hold a free Festival Preview screening of Wayne Blair’s hit film The Sapphires on Wednesday, October 1 at 7pm. Inspired by a true story, The Sapphires follows four vivacious, young and talented Australian Aboriginal singers and their makeshift manager, played by Chris O'Dowd, as they learn about love, friendship and war in 1968.
