2015 Canadian Screen Awards – Winners in News & Sports, Documentary, Lifestyle, Reality and Digital Media

The first round of Canadian Screen Awards were handed out last night at a gala dinner, celebrating 46 categories in news, factual television and some digital media. The event was hosted by comedian Darrin Rose at the Sheraton Centre Toronto. Highlights include:
Our Man in Tehran which captured Best Direction in a Documentary Program by Drew Taylor and Larry Weinstein as well as best documentary program and Best Picture Editing in a Documentary Program or Series for Steve Weslak and Best Sound in that category. It won all five categories for which it was nominated.
HGTV's Income Property winning Best Lifestyle or Talk Program or Series and Best Direction in a Lifestyle/Practical Information Program or Series.
CBC News: Toronto capturing Best Local Newscast, including co-anchor Anne-Marie Mediwake (pictured here).
Global National winning Best National Newscast, and Chris Gailus of Global BC News Hour for Best News Anchor, Local.
CBC's The Fifth Estate for News or Information Series and Best News or Information Program for the report Made in Bangladesh.
Tales From The Organ Trade (History Channel Canada) picked up Best Writing in a Documentary Program or Factual Series, the Barbara Sears Award for Best Editorial Research, Best Original Music for a Non-Fiction Program or Series and the Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Program.
Four previously announced Academy Special Award winners were also presented tonight to: The Exhibition (Damon Vignale, Robert Straight and Miho Yamamoto) for the Diversity Award, sponsored by Playback; Michael Landsberg for the Humanitarian Award; Jeffrey Elliott for the Digital Media Trailblazing Award sponsored by the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC); Ric Esther Bienstock for the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism.
Gala 2 happens tonight, also at the Sheraton Centre, in chilly downtown Toronto when the Academy hands out the first round of fictional TV awards, including best acting.
